The Arizona State University team recently played an American football game against the Oscar Trojans, the University of Southern California. But the most interesting and unexpected part of the match between the two universities had nothing to do with sport. Around twelve minutes of the first quarter of play, a wild fox made its entry into the field. Nobody knows how it got in, or how it got there, and that’s why it took everyone by surprise. The game was interrupted for a few minutes, to general amazement.
The fox, once on the pitch, set out to explore the stadium by also making a small tour of the stands. At times she seemed sure of herself, at times fearful. The audience was very surprised but not frightened, and between shouts and applause, between videos and selfies, at a certain point they started cheering for the animal.
Then the fox disappeared as quickly as it entered the stadium. And while it was a brief moment of glory for the animal, it was an event that everyone will remember. Or as the match reporter said, “the fox today will have a story to tell its pack.”
