It was to be the post-Covid relaunch season and Viris Vigevano, on the eve of its 75th anniversary of foundation, hit the target. First of all with the presence of a brood of motivated young people, many of them under-23, and then with a sequence of results of maximum excellence: eight victories (three for Andrea Piccolo, two for his brother Simone, one each for Leonardo Canepa and Michele Corradini, one team at the start of the season at the Giro di Romagna); six second places and seven thirds as well as a long streak of top-ten finishes in the various races.

«We have shown that we are a real team – confirms Diesse Stefano Martolini – where the successes of one were the result of everyone’s commitment. With eight victories, 21 podiums and 74 top ten placements we were among the most prominent teams on the national amateur scene, just after the two battleships Colpack and Zalf. “With seven under and five elite we have been protagonists of a season to be framed”.

Goals for the coming season? Thus Martolini: «We will certainly have several news because we aim to launch young people. We will talk about it again soon with some renovations and fresh arrivals. Eight or ten riders who will be involved together in every single race, avoiding dispersion on several fronts ».

From Leonardo Pirro, team manager of the Lomellino team, comes a technical balance and some first fruits: «We have fully achieved what we have set out thanks to a composite line-up that always lives up to expectations. Then came a champion like Andrea Piccolo who had found little space in the ranks of Astana among the “pros”. With us, in three months, he hit six podiums with three victories and the national team jersey of Marino Amadori with which he obtained the ninth place in the Veneto Classic with the professionals. Andrea will leave us for more coveted adventures, perhaps still in the Astana jersey with which he is bound by a contract ».

Then? «We also intend to leave for the next year with an ambitious under team – confirms Pirro – and have contacts with various athletes on the national amateur scene, eight or at most ten boys in all. Among the confirmed, the renewal of the twins Lorenzo and Francesco Galimberti is already certain today, while the two Canepa twins will leave Viris for other shores ». From an organizational point of view, the Freccia dei Vini remains uncertain even if there is a rumor, all to be confirmed, that the “patron” “of the July classic could be Emanuele Bombini from this year.
