After the knockout with Spezia, Pordenone must improve its game system

At the end of the match Massimo Paci, the neroverdi coach, rightly emphasized that they will not always play with a Serie A rival. In fact, in the last two games the team has faced Bologna (in a friendly match) and Spezia. But it is at the same time true that Pordenone must grow, especially because next Saturday, with the match against Perugia in Lignano, the cadet championship begins. This is the conviction that they left the 90 ‘with the Ligurians, which coincided with the 3-1 knockout and the elimination from the Italian Cup already after the 32nd of the final. The lizards are called to progress in the defensive phase – 7 goals conceded in the last 180 minutes – and in the dribble, in which they proved to be lacking.

The first half in front of Thiago Motta was disappointing. Even Paci, in commenting on the performance, did not hide. We saw an eleven renouncing in the attitude, who kept the center of gravity too low and who did not always have the strength to start again (also limited by the scorching heat, of course). Even with only one week of collective training, due to the Covid cases that occurred at the beginning of the retreat, Spezia made a better overall figure. So much so that Perisan, on balance, was the best in the field. The goalkeeper was decisive in the first and second fractions, with four cover interventions: Pordenone has suffered too much and his coach does not like this aspect, given that he is betting a lot on the defensive phase and on balance. Even from the point of view of construction the lizards – especially in the first 45 minutes – did not convince. Some turnovers at the exit, some managed not adequately, have confirmed what the technical and sporting management thinks and is convinced to do: to hire a thick midfielder, who can dictate the times and raise the quality level of the group.

At the same time, it must be said that all the Serie B teams, on the opening day of the Italian Cup, lost, even if Perugia made Genoa suffer a lot. Pordenone is also a new team, with a new form. The 4-4-2 replaced the 4-3-1-2 with which the lizards have performed from 2015 onwards. Especially in the middle of the pitch the music is different, with players like Magnino and Misuraca who have to get used to a different system of play. The initial part of the second half must be praised, in which a more convincing approach was seen: dragged by Folorunsho, who in the first twenty minutes of use has already shown how important it will be, the formation has raised the center of gravity, has proved more aggressive and immediately found the goal, the first official (albeit on a penalty). The Spezia then took the measures, returning to the game, and then “fishing” with the penalty of Colley the net that closed the match. There is work to be done, also from the point of view of finalization, because Pordenone cannot be based only on Cambiaghi’s initiatives, but we must reiterate the fact that there is time and that from next Saturday only category rivals will face each other. The lizards do not lose their debut in the league even from the very distant footballing 2014: the intent is not to ruin this positive streak.
