Alba De Silvestro: “The girls of Italy now know how to win”

the interview

It was a March that gave Alba De Silvestro two world titles.

On the 3rd, in Andorra, the Padola ski mountaineer won the title in the relay, together with Ilaria Veronese and Mara Martini, on the 12th, on the snows of Arêches-Beaufort (France) and Pierra Menta, the long distance one, together with Giulia Murada .

Not bad for booty. A booty to which bronze must be added in the individual.

“I’m happy with my ten days of world championships”, begins the comelian of the Army sports center. «I took home three medals and the results can only be satisfactory. I’m a little sorry I didn’t run the vertical, because maybe I could have brought another medal home. But it was a precise choice: to save energy in view of the individual and long distances. The medals have arrived and so that’s okay, it was the right choice ».

You have won two titles, both in team competitions. Which is the most beautiful? The relay or the long-distance world championship?

“If I had to choose, I wouldn’t really know what to do. Both titles are a lot of stuff. However, they have a different flavor, difficult to make comparisons: in the relay, you make your lap, you give everything, and then you wait for the fractions of the others, while in the long distance there is a greater teamwork, I have to support and endure from the beginning to the end”.

Italy was once again a great protagonist at the World Cup. The novelty this year is that, in addition to the boys, you girls have also won a lot.

«The pink movement is definitely growing. Two years ago we finished fourth in the relay, this year we didn’t know who to run, so much was the abundance. And in the long distance we took the gold Giulia and I, the silver Ilaria Veronese and Mara Martini. We are all at a very good level. In the international ranking France and Sweden lead but then there is a blue tide ».

Alba De Silvestro, in fact, is no longer alone. You are the most experienced. Do you feel more responsible? Do you feel like the captain?

“I’m the biggest of the bunch, but not that much bigger. Captain? No, I don’t want degrees. ‘

Let’s talk a little about the World Cup.

«This season’s calendar does not favor me: compared to usual there is one less individual and one more sprint. And so I find myself behind as I have never been: seventh, over a hundred points from the podium area ».

The Campiglio appointment at the end of the month is still missing.

«It closes early this year and I will try to finish with a flourish. But it won’t be easy, because the opponents are many and some are very strong. In Campiglio there will be a sprint, a vertical and an individual: reaching the podium in the final overall will not be easy at all. Indeed, I would say it will be almost impossible ».

Will you be at the Transcavallo this weekend?

“No. Saturday and Sunday in Abruzzo for the final of the Italian Cup, with a vertical, which will be recovery of the Italian championship, and an individual. We will compete there. On 10 April, then, conclusion of the season at Adamello ski raid, in the hope that it will be confirmed ».

Yep, question marks continue to accompany this season. How difficult was it to live with uncertainty?

«In December we knew little or nothing about what we would be able to do, then we still managed to do everything. Between buffers and limitations it has been a more stressful year than usual, but so far it has gone. We hope to be able to complete it regularly ». –
