Andrea Mura: “My future is the ocean”

by admin

After the official launch of his new boat with a bottle of Cannonau, the sailor from Cagliari announces his plans

CAGLIARI. A new boat without forgetting the Ocean: «Where in the future I will return to participate in the Vendèe Globe – announces Andrea Mura – a solo tour of the world without stopover and assistance». The Cagliari navigator launched Privilege 515 Vento di Sardegna Explorer at the Marina Turismar of Arbatax Explorer, the eco-sustainable maxi catamaran supporting the legendary “Open 50” Vento di Sardegna, on board which he was the protagonist of many companies in the Atlantic Ocean, including two victories stand out at the Ostar, one at the Twostar with record and one at the Route du Rhum, the only Italian to win the Atlantic crossing between Saint Malo, in Brittany, and Guadalupe, in the Antilles. The baptism of water took place in the presence of the civil and military authorities. Even if sober, a ceremony with all the trappings, as befits the queens of the sea who are preparing to touch the water to start sailing. To break the bottle on the hull, an Ogliastra cannonau, was Daniela, godmother of the event as well as wife and life partner of the ocean navigator: “If the French use champagne to launch a boat – underlined Andrea Mura – we we prefer the Sardinian red, the cannonau, the strong one with a vermilion color, which leaves its mark on the hull of the boat. The other boat, Vento di Sardegna, also received the baptism of water with the cannonau and, on balance, it also brought her luck. I am happy and above all very excited for the ceremony that inaugurated the new life of Vento di Sardegna Explorer, a floating “villa”, 15 meters long, 8 meters wide, with a sail area of 300 square meters ».

Meanwhile, the legendary Open 50 Vento di Sardegna is moored in the port of Villasimius, waiting for a make-up aimed at ocean navigation: “My dream is to sail the ocean again and snatch the primacy from the French – continues Andrea Mura – who have always won the Vendèe Globe, the circumnavigation of the globe on a solo sailboat nicknamed the Everest of the sea, which departs every four years from the port of Les Sables-d’Olonne, a municipality of the Vendée in the Pays de la Loire region. I miss the ocean a lot, with the infinite spaces, the northern lights. But I especially miss the competition, which is why I would like to participate in the Vendèe Globe. I am looking for resources that allow me to achieve a dream but to be able to sail it takes a 60-footer, since the Open 50 has no longer been allowed to race around the world since 2000. If I don’t have to do it there is always the catamaran just launched with which I could always go around the globe ».

Andrea Mura, 57 years old on 13 September, is experiencing the sea, even if it is not the ocean but the Mediterranean at 360 degrees. On the Sardinia Explorer Privilege 515 Vento catamaran he moved with his family: his wife Daniela and their three-year-old sons Lucas and Marvel just over a year old. The sea will always be his home.
