The athlete from Corteolona first fractionist in Mixed Relay: 300 meters of running, 7 kilometers of cycling and 1.9 of running
PAVIA. Italy’s mixed relay triathlon goes to the Tokyo Games. At the World Triathlon Mixed Relay Olympic Qualification Event held in Lisbon (race distances 300 meters of swimming, 7 km of cycling, 1.9 km of running), the blue relay composed of Angelica Olmo (Carabinieri), Gianluca Pozzatti (707), Alice Betto (Fiamme Oro) and Nicola Azzano (Carabinieri) hit a precious second place behind Belgium which is worth qualifying for the Olympics.
The Pavese of the Carabinieri Sports Group in the first fraction launched the Azzurri to a podium as important as it was unexpected, ending her effort in second position. Zenevredo’s triathlete passed the baton to Pozzatti who continued to keep Italy in the podium area, traveling together with Switzerland and Denmark. In the third fraction, that of Alice Betto, the cards were reshuffled. The blue of the Fiamme Oro led alone up to a few hundred meters from the transition area, then was overtaken by Switzerland, Belgium and Denmark in the second transition. Nicola Azzano received the change in fourth place, but in the fourth stage swimming, he climbed back into the medals area. The blue fought shoulder to shoulder with his Swiss rival and won a splendid long sprint that gave Italy second place and the Olympic pass.
“We wanted the podium to qualify the relay in Tokyo and we hit it – said Angelica Olmo – we hope this is just the beginning of a growing Olympic year”. The four qualified the relay for the Games, but it is clear that the Zenevredo triathlete, twenty-five on June 18, took an important step to participate in the Games herself. Obviously, the official status is still missing, but having qualified the relay at the Games allows Angelica Olmo to exponentially increase her chances of participating in the next Olympics, also because Angelica has shown that she is in great shape and deserves Tokyo.
