Archery World Cup Shanghai to Kick Off with Top Athletes Competing for Olympic Points

The 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup-Lujiazui Financial City Shanghai Station is set to begin in Pudong New Area, with over 300 athletes from 46 countries and regions taking part in the prestigious event. From April 23 to 28, these athletes will gather on the banks of the Huangpu River to vie for crucial points towards qualifying for the Paris Olympics.

Being an international Category A event, the Archery World Cup Shanghai is not only the opening match of the new season but also a critical points match for athletes aiming for the Paris Olympics. With 10 events including men’s and women’s recurve individual and team events, as well as men’s and women’s compound bow individual and team events, the competition promises to be fierce.

The qualifying and knockout rounds will take place at Yuanshen Stadium in Pudong, Shanghai from April 23 to 26, with the finals scheduled to be held at Pudong Binjiang Financial Plaza on April 27 and 28. This year’s event is expected to be a showdown of top archers, with 4 Olympic champions, 11 World Championship champions, 4 World Cup finals champions, and 20 World Cup champions competing for victory.

The Chinese team, competing on home soil, boasts a talented lineup with seasoned players like Wang Yan, Kao Wenchao, Li Zhongyuan, and Lu Peng showcasing their skills in the recurve event. The Chinese women’s team, featuring Li Jiaman, An Qixuan, Hai Ligan, and Yang Xiaolei, has also displayed impressive performances in previous team trials and is anticipated to make a mark on the international stage.
