Xi’an News Network News On October 28, the 11th National Paralympic Games and the 8th Special Olympics Seated Volleyball Competition came to an end. In this competition, the 43-year-old Huang Chunji’s identity is very special. He is both the head coach of the Shaanxi men’s and women’s team and an athlete of the men’s team. Although the game is over, he hopes to continue coaching for Shaanxi.

Who is Huang Chunji:

Former National Seated Men’s Volleyball Team Captain

Huang Chunji was born in an ordinary worker’s family in Shanghai in 1978. He lost his right leg forever in a car accident when he was 6 years old. Although life crippled him physically, he lived a wonderful life with his love of sports.

In July 1999, Huang Chunji had just graduated from a university in Shanghai, and became acquainted with sitting volleyball. Because a year later, the Fifth National Paralympic Games will be held in Shanghai. The Shanghai Sports Delegation was recruiting athletes from across the city. Huang Chunji went to register and was selected as a sitting volleyball player. After 22 years, his life was closely linked to sitting volleyball.

After the 2000 Shanghai Paralympic Games, Huang Chunji was selected to the Chinese men’s seated volleyball team and served as captain from 2006 to 2008. Wearing a national team jersey, he participated in two Asian Paralympic Games, one Paralympic Games and one seated volleyball world championship. After the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, at the age of 30, he retired from the national team and returned to his unit Shanghai-level sports school to engage in sitting volleyball training full-time. He served as a member and assistant coach of the Shanghai men’s sitting volleyball team.

“For me personally, from 2000 to 2008, the career of athletes was on the rise.” Huang Chunji said. At the Beijing Paralympic Games, the Chinese men’s seated volleyball team, which entered the Paralympic finals for the first time, was the best in the world. Won the fifth place in the top events, the best result in history.

Invited to come to Shaanxi:

Be both an athlete and a head coach

“Because Shanghai started early in sitting volleyball, and has been among the best for many years. After the end of the 10th National Paralympic Games and the 7th Special Olympics in September 2019, the Shaanxi Provincial Disabled Sports Management Center Contacted the Shanghai Disabled Sports Culture Promotion Center, hoping that Shanghai would provide technical support for Shaanxi to form a seated volleyball team to participate in the competition. Therefore, I was invited to be the head coach of the Shaanxi seated volleyball men’s and women’s team.” Huang Chunji said, from a personal perspective Starting off, he prefers to select players from Shaanxi, but because the seated volleyball event in Shaanxi was blank at the time, in order to prepare well for this Paralympic Games, he selected players from across the country in early 2020. There are 8 men’s and women’s teams in this competition. Only the women’s team has two athletes from Shaanxi. Among them, 20-year-old Hu Huizi has participated in the Tokyo Paralympics and is also the only national player.

Sitting volleyball is a team game, which emphasizes coordination and cooperation among players, not a quick event. Due to the epidemic and some team members ask for leave, it is very difficult for the entire team to gather together. On September 26, 2021, the last female team member arrived on the team. The originally planned one-year team training time is less than two months, so it will be improved in a short time. The level of sitting volleyball competition is indeed very difficult. As the host team, he feels a lot of pressure.

“Strategic contempt of opponents, tactically, we must pay attention to opponents, and strive to get a good ranking for Shaanxi.” Huang Chunji said that as a coach, he drives the emotions of the players, and as an athlete, he uses experience to keep the team as excited and high-spirited as possible in the game. . “Winning or losing is just a result. The most important thing is to control the process. Winning or losing is not what you think, but what you play.” Seated volleyball is a sport that pays more attention to teamwork, because the Shaanxi team’s seated volleyball team members come from all over the country. , In order to increase the team members’ tacit understanding, he will organize the team members to play games together to increase the degree of integration and intimacy between the team members.

In the seated volleyball competition of this Paralympic Games, the Shaanxi men’s team won the sixth place and the Shaanxi women’s team won the fourth place. “Although the pre-match indicators have been completed, but Shaanxi has not won a medal, this is also a pity.” Huang Chunji said with emotion after the game.

“If Shaanxi continues to develop sitting volleyball and hope you stay, will you?” Huang Chunji replied without hesitation: “Yes!” He hopes that through reporters’ reports, more people will understand Shaanxi’s sitting volleyball and attract more Shaanxi disabled people to participate in this project. Huang Chunji said, “My parents feel that I can get out of a different life by participating in sports for the disabled. They are very pleased and support me. The essence of the Paralympic Games is not the result of the competition, but the promotion of the disabled Confidence in life, through the use of disabled athletes to show the vitality of life, so that more disabled people muster the courage to live.”■Xi’an Newspaper Industry Reporter Li Dongfeng
