The track of the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on which yesterday Marcel Jacobs signed the new Italian record with 9’94 and today he will try to climb the top of the final par excellence, that of the hundred flat meters, was designed and produced in Alba, by World. The Piedmontese company is an excellence of the Italian Sport industry and since the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976 it has supplied the IOC and the various organizing committees with the athletics track. Track on which not only the competitions of the queen of the Olympic disciplines take place, but which represents the main stage of the event starting with the inaugural ceremony.

Technology and performance

“The intuition that led us to invest in this sector – explains Federico Stroppiana, vice president of Mondo Fin and son of the founder Edmondo who in 1948 created the company to produce the elastic ball for a sport widely practiced in Lower Piedmont – was that of creating surfaces that had an ever higher technological component. The news for Tokyo

For the Japanese Games Mondo installed (in 2019) the Mondotrack WS athletics track, designed in collaboration with World Athletics, the World Athletics Federation, but also redesigned all the equipment used in the arena, from lane markers to obstacles, from the fall areas to the trolleys. The World Athletics and Mondo technicians have worked together to significantly innovate the equipment, combining technology and design components and trying to maintain reliability, comfort and safety unchanged.

The new range of equipment will incorporate the lines and colors of the federation’s logo for World Athletics Series events and will completely change the look of stadiums during both indoor and outdoor international competitions. For the first time, in fact, the track and equipment, equipped with integrated LED technology, will be illuminated, creating further movement during the races, adapting to the developments of the same, to help the public follow the events. The technology is capable of producing a range of colored lights to provide different information, such as gold, silver and bronze to indicate athletes’ placings, or red and green for successful and unsuccessful attempts on the pitch. After Tokyo, in March 2022, the equipment will be used for the Indoor Athletics World Championships in Belgrade, and in July 2022 for the outdoor ones in the USA.
