Jannik Sinner – in full swing for the Nitto Atp Finals – starts the tournament in Vienna in the best possible way: in his debut match he defeated the American Reilly Opelka 6-4 6-2 in an hour and two minutes of play. In the next round Sinner faces Dennis Novak.
Lorenzo Sonego opened the Italian day in the best way possible at the “Erste Bank Open”, ATP 500 in Vienna. The 26-year-old from Turin, n.23 in the ranking, defeated 6-4 6-3, in an hour and 20 minutes, the German Dominik Koepfer, n.62 Atp, fished out as lucky loser (in place of the Chilean Cristian Garin ). Tomorrow in the second round Sonego will have to contend with the Norwegian Casper Ruud, n.8 in the ranking and 4 in the seeding, in the running for a place in the Nitto ATP Finals.
Bitter debut in the ATP 500 in Vienna for Fabio Fognini, eliminated in the first round by Diego Schwartzman. The Ligurian tennis player, who alternates great shots with sensational skids in the second set (especially in the last two games, the decisive ones), loses 6-2, 7-5 in a match of one hour and thirty-one minutes with the Argentine, who he recovers after the final lost three days ago in Antwerp against Sinner. Schwartzman thus enters the second round and will meet the winner between Gael Monfils and Lorenzo Musetti.
