Polanco, Kaddari, Tortu and Patta: 4 Olympians awarded by Ussi in Vigne Surrau

ARZACHENA. On Monday 4 October 2021, at 4.30 pm, in the Surraudi Arzachena vineyards, the ceremony for the delivery of the Ussi Sardinia 2021 Awards is held. The event – realized thanks to the hospitality of one of the most prestigious wineries – provides awards for athletes, managers, technicians, island and national clubs that have stood out during the 2020 and 2021 competitive seasons. The evening will be led by the co-director of Videolina, Simona De Francisci. The ceremony follows in detail the preventive measures against Covid-19.

Among the winners, the football clubs of Cagliari, Olbia and Arzachena, as well as Dinamo basket Sassari. The evening will be the Olympic gold medals Filippo Tortu and Lorenzo Patta, the bronze Stefano Oppo, as well as other athletes who participated in the Games in Tokyo: Francesca Deidda, Dalia Kaddari, Marta Maggetti, Wanderson Polanco, Davide Ruiu, Andrea Agrusti, Marco Spissu and Alessia Orro (fresh European winner in Serbia). There will also be the Paralympic athletes Giovanni Achenza (bronze in the Triathlon), Rita Cuccuru and Sara Desini. And Ilaria Meloni, two Italian champion in the tandem on the Paralympic cycling track.

Awards for Atletico Uri (football, Serie D men), Torres (football, Serie B women), Hermaea Olbia (volleyball, Serie A2 women). The Joseph Vargiu prize for boxing was awarded to Federico Serra; that Aci Sassari to the rally driver Gian Battista Conti. Also present was a delegation from Luna Rossa, winner of the Prada Cup and finalist of the America’s Cup in New Zealand.

Lifetime Achievement Award for the cyclist Fabio Aru (winner of the Vuelta in 2015). Davide Astori’s parents, Renatoe Giovanna, for the fourth edition of the award named after his son, who passed away in 2018, give the award to AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli. To the Associazione Memoria storico Torresina, Ussi Sardegna makes a contribution linked to the rebirth of football in the municipality of Cuglieri, one of the most affected by the fires this summer. Other prizes are foreseen for the main protagonists of sport and culture in Sardinia.

The event. The Ussi awards – in addition to recognizing regional sporting and ethical exploits – are an opportunity to reflect and broaden the comparison. The awards have, among others, the patronage of the presidency of the regional council, regional department of sport and public education, Coni Sardegna, national Ussi. The event is supported by Vigne Surrau, municipality of Arzachena, Coni Sardegna, Banco di Sardegna, Banco di Sardegna Foundation, Intesa San Paolo, Order of Journalists of Sardinia.
