BASKETBALL SERIE A. The portrait of Michal Sokolowski, the revelation of De ‘Longhi

the character

On the pitch he is often a fury, an indomitable warrior: Pesaro knows something about it, who collected 23 points both in the first leg and in the return from the winger who arrived in October from the Polish championship. It is Michal Sokolowski, born in 1992, who in the season is traveling at an average of 13.7 points (20.3 in the last four) with a fantastic 48.8% from three. Outside the pitch, Sokolowski is more shy and reserved, preferring to stay focused on two aspects: family and basketball.

How did you start playing basketball?

“I was 7 years old, I was going to school for the first time and a coach came to the class to ask who was interested in starting to play basketball. I was intrigued, and accepted the invitation. They told me to show up the following evening, I liked it a lot and here I am playing again today. I was lucky enough to keep intact the passion I had since I was a child ».

When did you realize that you could have become a professional player?

«I would say around the age of 18, when I started playing in the first team of my city. They played in the second division (our A2, ed), then I moved to Anwil in our Serie A and from there I always tried to improve, focusing on giving my best ».

“Actually I had already tried three years ago to try to gain experience abroad, but it was not easy to get known outside Poland. The experience with the national team has certainly helped (he was a protagonist at the World Cup in China, contributing to the eighth place of Poland, ed), but the opportunity did not come, so I changed agent, choosing the SportLab where Massimo Iacopini is a partner, whom I think you know well. It is thanks to him that I am here, I owe him a lot for giving me this opportunity ».

A significant moment was the birth of Stanislaw, who is two years old. What has changed since your arrival?

«Let’s say everything and nothing, in the sense that I was a quiet boy and I still am. Together with my wife Dominika we try to take care of our son as much as we can, taking into account that we do not have the support of family members due to the distance ».

How has Covid affected your lives?

«We are prudent people and we prefer not to shoot a lot. We have only visited Venice once, for the rest we really like Treviso, a city with a family dimension. Here, one thing that is very different is the fact that there are practically no restaurants open. In Poland, after a workout, it was customary to eat out. Now it is not possible ».

How do you like to spend your free time?

“We go for walks outdoors, we like to walk along the Restera and also to go around the Casier area. There are really many parks, and well equipped, for children to play ».

What are your plans for the future?

“I don’t like making long-term plans and thinking about where I’ll be in ten years. I prefer to stay focused on the moment, I know I can do a lot to change things in the present, while the past is past and we don’t know what the future holds, so I prefer to focus on the present and make sure my family and I are healthy. I believe that once you have health, you have everything. ‘ –
