ARAGON (SPAIN). A bitter debut in Superbike for Axel Bassani. The rider from Seren del Grappa, riding a Ducati, finished the first round of the season in sixteenth position, thanks to the wrong choice of tire for the race.
On the Aragon track, the Feltre rider opted for a harder compound than all the riders on the grid and this choice did not pay off, on the contrary, it put him in difficulty, making him cross the finish line in a position far from expectations.
In fact, in qualifying, the Motocorsa Racing team rider achieved an excellent ninth time, but was unable to defend and improve in Race 1.

«We could have done well, but unfortunately we got the wrong tire. We were the only ones on the track with the SC0s, while all the others had the softer one “, explains Bassani regretfully at the end of the competition,” we paid the consequences and struggled in the race. Now we think about settling down for today’s commitments ».
The season changes but the winner doesn’t change. Just like last year, the first to cross the finish line on the Aragon track was Rea, on a Kawasaki. The Northern Irish rider immediately showed that he wants to take back the scepter of the championship, passed in 2021 to his rival Razgatlioglu on Yamaha. The latter finished on the third step of the podium, while between the two was placed Bautista, on Ducati, once again the protagonist after last season where he had only obtained two podiums.
The battle in Race 1 was between Rea and the Spaniard while Razgatlioglu stood by, contenting himself with third place, on a track not favorable to his Yamaha. The top two finishers fought for a good part of the race and in the end Rea won over his rival by just 90 thousandths. In fourth and fifth place were the Italians Rinaldi and Locatelli, respectively on Ducati and Yamaha.
For Race 2 this afternoon, a similar battle is expected between Rea and Bautista, the favorites of the race, while the reigning champion could still remain detached, on a track not suitable for his bike. Instead, Bassani will be looking for redemption and will certainly want to improve the sixteenth position that did not satisfy neither him nor his team yesterday.
