Bagnaia, the victory still eludes but the world summit is approaching

Great comeback of the Chivassese, who in the last lap made a masterpiece coming behind the winner Binder. Second also in the general

CHIVASSO

This time, Pecco Bagnaia managed to come close to victory twice in a single race: the MotoGP Grand Prix held on Sunday at the Red Bull Ring circuit. Starting from the front row, with the third fastest time in qualifying, the rider from Chivasso immediately took the lead, burning Jorge Martin, author of the pole position. Up to five laps from the end, Bagnaia maintained the lead with authority, stifling the attacks of Fabio Quartararo, first, and Marc Marquez then, regaining the first place when both of them overtook him. When the arrival seemed imminent, here is the rain: all the best have returned to the pits to change the bike and return with the rain tires. Only a few daredevils took the risk of finishing the test with slicks.

Bagnaia returned to 11th position and on the last lap he performed a masterpiece, hoisting himself into second position: a frenzied pace, an extra half lap would have been enough to reach and overtake Brad Binder too, but the checkered flag dropped relentlessly, to sanction the victory of the South African, with Bagnaia second, both at the finish line and in the championship standings (47 points behind the leader Quartararo). «This time too we were very close to winning – commented the Ducati rider -, but I’m happy anyway. We did our best and we worked really well. Both when I was leading in the dry and in the wet, we managed the situation well. After the first lap with the rain, I then found my rhythm and managed to overtake many opponents to reach second place. We will try again, already at Silverstone, on Sunday 29th ». –
