The French Warren Barguil won the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, the Sefro (Macerata) -Fermo, of 155 kilometers. Barguil, the only survivor of a small group of runners who starred in the breakaway of the day, preceded the Belgian Xandro Meurisse and the Italian Simone Velasco at the finish line by a few seconds. Leader of the race remains Slovenian Tadej Pogacar.
