People with disabilities account for about 15% of the world‘s total population and are an important part of a community of shared future for mankind. The Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games is another global sports event for the disabled held in China after the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
The National Stadium is brightly lit and full of brilliance. At 19:57, the emblem of the Beijing Winter Paralympics was displayed on a huge screen in the center of the stadium. To the sound of “Peace – A Community of Destiny”, Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan walked to the rostrum with Parsons and others, waving to the audience. There was a long period of warm applause and cheers from the audience.
In the center of the venue, in the splendid sea of stars, the names of the cities that have hosted the 12 Winter Paralympics in the past appeared, and finally settled on “2022 Beijing”. Athletes representing the six major sports of the Winter Paralympic Games galloped down a snow track and slid into the field. A curling track appeared in the center of the venue. Paralympic cross-country skier and biathlete Guo Yujie and Paralympic ice hockey player Wang Zhidong marched at the forefront of the team with bright five-star red flags. A total of 217 Chinese delegations, including 96 athletes, will compete in all 6 major events and 73 minor events. This is the one with the largest delegation, the largest number of athletes, and the most complete participating items since my country participated in the Paralympic Winter Games.
After the athletes entered the stadium, the IPC short film “Our 15%” was played on the big screen, showing the confident and energetic demeanor of the disabled, calling for further attention, inclusiveness and accessibility to the 1.2 billion disabled people in the world level.
Afterwards, Cai Qi, chairman of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, delivered a speech. At 21:02, the opening ceremony ushered in an exciting moment. President Xi Jinping announced: Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics open! Immediately, purple fireworks in the shape of snowflakes burst into the night sky, making the Olympic Park extraordinarily beautiful.
Representatives from all walks of life shared a warm moment of harmony between the disabled and the healthy. Eight flag-bearers entered the venue with the International Paralympic Committee flag. They are: Chen Qi, the coach of the Chinese women’s wheelchair basketball national team, Hao Guohua, an international referee for the blind gateball, Liu Yutong, the Paralympic badminton gold medalist, Yao Juan, the Paralympic throwing gold medalist, and Zhang Li, the Paralympic swimming gold medalist. , Paralympic wheelchair fencing gold medalist Sun Gang, Paralympic table tennis gold medalist Xue Juan, and Paralympic wheelchair fencing gold medalist Li Hao. Afterwards, Chinese Paralympic alpine skier Zhang Mengqiu, wheelchair curler Chen Jianxin represented all participating athletes, Chinese Paralympic ice hockey referee Zhang Liheng represented all referees, and Chinese wheelchair curling coach Yue Qingqing took oaths on behalf of all coaches and officials.

From March 2 to 4, the Winter Paralympic Torch Relay was held in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. In the National Stadium, Liu Sitong, athlete in the women’s alpine skiing group at the PyeongChang Winter Paralympics, Wen Xiaoyan, winner of five track and field gold medals at the Rio Paralympics and Tokyo Paralympic Games, and Ma Jia, winner of two swimming gold medals at the Tokyo Paralympic Games , Tokyo Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball runner-up Zhang Xuemei, Rio Paralympic Games and Tokyo Paralympic Games four track and field gold medallist Liu Cuiqing, three consecutive Paralympic shooting gold medalist Dong Chao, three consecutive Paralympic Games Sitting 7 torchbearers including Tang Xuemei, the medal winner of volleyball, passed down the Winter Paralympic torch and bat, and went forward in a relay, which was warmly welcomed by the audience.
In the spotlight, Li Duan, the last torchbearer, who won the long jump and triple jump championships and broke the world record in the Athens Paralympic Games and the Beijing Paralympic Games, embedded the torch in the center of the main torch tower in the shape of a “big snowflake”. The Beijing Winter Paralympics continued to use the main torch design method of the Beijing Winter Olympics, which once again reflected the concept of green environmental protection.
