Biathlete Ingrid Landmark will no longer meet Tandrevold at the World Championships. After the next faux pas, the Norwegian bursts into tears. Her teammate comforts her.

Shortly before the press conference, Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold could no longer hold back her tears. Completely distraught and sobbing, Norway’s biathlon superstar Johannes Thingnes Bö hugged his teammate on the podium in front of the assembled crowd of journalists and spoke comfortingly to the 27-year-old for a long time.

What happened? The overall World Cup leader gave up a possible victory in the single mixed relay on Thursday evening with a penalty loop in the last shooting – in the end she only managed bronze behind France and Italy. But her tears were about more than the missed chance to win World Cup gold on Thursday evening. The title fights turn into a disaster for them.

“How could it come to this?”

The 18-time world champion didn’t want to say what Bö said to her at that exact moment. The duo quickly left the scene. Just this much: “I had problems too. If you look at it like that, I made just as many mistakes as she did.” He had already tried to build up his teammate at the finish: “I’m proud of her.”

“I don’t recognize myself”

If it had been enough to win his third gold in the Czech Republic, Bö would have moved within one title of record world champion Ole Einar Björndalen.

And the German duo? Vanessa Voigt and Justus Strelow stood in the finish area for minutes with stony faces and had to wait for their television interview. The two German biathletes would have preferred to quickly disappear from the stadium. Instead of sharing the team’s euphoria after two medals in the last two days, Strelow and Voigt experienced a huge disappointment with sixth place, 1:04.6 minutes behind.

For Tandrevold, the entire title fights so far have been nothing but a huge disappointment. Above all, their shooting performance at the peak of the season is slowly causing the best of the season to despair. While standing, she made one mistake after another – she didn’t get through cleanly in any of her five missions. The results with ranks 25, 27 and 34 in the individual races are desolate by their standards.

“I don’t recognize myself. I have no feeling, neither positive nor negative. “I’m empty,” Tandrevold told Norwegian broadcaster NRK after the race. Now she’s even afraid to shoot.
