Monica Boggioni wins the silver medal in the SB4 100 breaststroke and the bronze in the 50 backstroke category S5, during the second day of the Paralympic Swimming World Championships taking place in Funchal, on the Portuguese island of Madeira.

The swimmer from Pavia finished second in the 50 breaststroke, behind her national teammate and Fiamme Oro Giulia Ghiretti, who won with a time of 1’52 “01, while the 23-year-old from Pavia touched the finish plate in 1’53 “33. The second step of the podium in the breaststroke specialty is thus added to the third in the 50 freestyle, obtained in the opening round of the world championship.

«I am very satisfied both for the medals and for the times – commented Boggioni warmly – in the 50 style it was a while since I could not go below 40″ and instead in Funchal I finished in 39 “40. In the 100 breaststroke I have established my new personal best, I am really happy for this too, as it is a confirmation that the work I am developing with my coach is bearing the hoped-for results. Among other things, sharing the podium of the 100 breaststroke with Giulia was doubly important. I have to say that the World Cup got off to a good start ”.

Boggioni then added the third medal, also bronze, in the 50 backstrokes category S5, managing to get on the third step of the podium with an all attacking race, remedying a slow start with an unstoppable progression that brought it to a breath from the silver, went to the Turkish Sevilay Ozturk. The Olympic champion of the Fiamme Oro and of Pavia Nuoto touched the poolside at the end of a very fast race, with a time of 46 ”32. With this result, Monica has already improved the performance of the previous world championships, in which she had won two bronzes. –
