The Silverstone Grand Prix provided a thrilling backdrop for the filming of Brad Pitt’s highly-anticipated Formula 1 movie. Over the weekend, Pitt and his co-star, Damson Idris, were on hand capturing scenes for the film that involved interacting with professional motorsport drivers.
Confirmed last year, the movie revolves around the story of Sonny Hayes, a veteran Formula 1 driver portrayed by Brad Pitt, who comes out of retirement to compete with a talented rookie teammate, played by Damson Idris. The film promises to deliver an engaging narrative that explores the challenges faced by these two drivers.
In an interview with Martin Brundle, Brad Pitt expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “It’s been great, the vibe has been incredible, and also being a part of this and telling our story… I play a driver who was racing in the 90s… he has a horrible crash and disappears and starts racing in other disciplines. His friend, played by Javier Bardem, is the owner of a team that is in last place. They have a young pilot played by Damson, they give me a chance.”
Adding a layer of authenticity, Brad Pitt had the opportunity to drive a car alongside the actual Formula 1 drivers on the track. Having previous experience racing motorcycles, Pitt attributed his comfort at high speeds to his past endeavors. Although he admitted to going off the track a few times, the actor highlighted the exciting and unprecedented footage captured by cameras mounted throughout the car, promising viewers a thrilling experience.
The film showcases a fictitious team called APXGP, donning black and white uniforms and driving a black car with gold accents—a unique visual representation within the Formula 1 world.
French Alpine team pilot Pierre Gasly shared a photo on Instagram featuring several drivers alongside Brad Pitt, including Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, adding to the excitement surrounding the movie.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on “Top Gun: Maverick,” and produced by seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, the movie is a collaboration between Apple Studios, the FIA (International Automobile Federation), and all 10 Formula 1 teams. The script was penned by Ehren Krueger, and joining the star-studded cast are Tobias Menzies from “The Crown.”
Despite the buzz surrounding Brad Pitt’s Formula 1 movie, there is as yet no confirmed title or release date. Formula 1 enthusiasts and moviegoers alike eagerly await its arrival.
In the meantime, this unique project promises to captivate audiences with its authentic portrayal of the thrilling world of Formula 1 and the compelling story of its lead characters.
