When looking for a successor to Frank Baumann, the Bremen team decided on an internal solution. As the club reports, the choice fell on Clemens Fritz.

Since Frank Baumann announced his departure at the beginning of November, there has been speculation about who will be the new sports director at Werder. Now Clemens Fritz has won the race. He will succeed Baumann in the summer. The Bild newspaper first reported it, but Werder has now officially announced it.

Supervisory board chairman Hubertus Hees-Grunewald had already reported when Baumann’s farewell was announced that Fritz was among the candidates. At the same time, Werder also wanted to hold discussions with external candidates. As Hess-Grunewald now explains, the club looked for candidates nationally and internationally and held numerous discussions. Ultimately, however, Fritz prevailed.

In the end, Clemens was able to convince us with his strategy and approach in several rounds of discussions and thus prevailed against the strong competitors.

Hess-Grunewald emphasized that Werder “fully” trusts Fritz to take the step into the management of the club. The sporting area is in “good hands” with him. Fritz explained that, in his opinion, Werder had made a “very positive development” in recent years. After six years at Baumann’s side, he is now looking forward to his task.
