Burdisso amazes in Hungary: silver and Italian record

by admin

The 19-year-old from Pavia was beaten only by the favorite Milak in the Paralympic 200 butterfly, second gold for Monica Boggioni in the mixed 4×50 relay

PAVIA. Federico Burdisso’s feat at the European swimming championships in progress in Budapest in Hungary: the 19-year-old talent from Pavia wins the silver medal in the 200 butterfly, also setting the new Italian record with a time of 1’54 “28, improving the previous one 1’54 ” 39 always held by him. Burdisso had the courage to attack the Hungarian Milak, a great favorite who then won with a stratospheric 1’51 ”10.

«Compared to the heats and the semifinal, I have heard this final enough – said the new Italian record holder at the end – I am really tired. I have seen the steps and I am in line with what I wanted to try to do. The weather? Honestly, I thought better, but I consider these European Championships a stage of passage towards the Olympics, so everything is fine ». Burdisso was strong in the first 150 meters, a tactic that is somewhat his trademark: for seven cents he reaches second place at 100 meters, he appears loose, with a big push underwater, making life difficult for Milak. And this time the swimming talent from Pavia kept pace even in the last pool, resisting the return of the other Hungarian Tamas Kenderesi who had to settle for the bronze.

Boggioni, more gold

Monica Boggioni for her part won the second title in the continental Paralympic swimming championships currently taking place in Madeira, Portugal, winning gold with the 4×50 style mixed relay: Monica swam together with Arjola Trimi, Francesco Bocciardo and Federico Bicelli, who set the time of 2’22 “99, beating Ukraine (2’28” 95), and then Russia (2’38 “40). In the 200 medley, Boggioni, victorious in the 50 backstroke, finished in seventh place in 3’38 ”61.

«A very positive day – commented Monica at the end of the races – I swam in the 200 mixed SM6, that is a category higher than mine, yet I managed to qualify for the final, where despite finishing seventh, given the opponents, I can say that I am satisfied. As for the time trial, having closed with a second more than the personal best is fine. With the mixed 4×50 style relay we won gold. It was a wonderful emotion because it was two years since the relay had not been contested due to Covid and having won it at the European Championships, and then listening to and singing the Mameli anthem together with my national team mates was fantastic ». –
