Burdisso measures his strength, he will only do the 100 butterfly

The Olympian from Pavia will face the battery tomorrow. His coach Palombi: “No renunciation, he gave priority to studying”

PAVIA

Federico Burdisso’s time is approaching at the World Swimming Championships being held at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary. Tomorrow morning, the 21-year-old champion from Pavia – born on 20 September 2001 – will compete in the sixth battery of the 100 butterfly (the start is scheduled at 9.12). In agreement with his coach, Simone Palombi, Fede has decided to limit his participation in the world championship competition and possibly the 4×100 mixed relay to this race, giving up the beloved 200 butterfly, which earned him bronze at the Tokyo Games (l another Olympic medal, of the same coinage, came precisely from the relay).

“This is not a renunciation, but a thoughtful choice – explains Palombi – after a very intense and satisfying 2021, Federico has decided to focus on his studies, to which he has dedicated so much time and energy in recent months – Burdisso attends Statistical Economics at the University of Evanston, Illinois – so the shared decision was to make only the 100 butterfly in Budapest and the relay in case of inclusion in the blue team ». Federico is however expected by a demanding challenge, in which he will not miss the competition: hitting the final would already be a significant result. The big favorite is the American Caeleb Dressel, reigning world champion, who will have to beware of home idol Kristof Milak, who gave him a hard time in the Olympic final last summer. In any case, Budapest will not be the only major limelight of 2022: in fact, the European Championships will be held in Rome at the end of August. Also tomorrow (at 9.56 according to the time schedule of the world championships) Norah Milanesi from Pavia will also be in the water, competing with the colors of Cameroon in the battery of 50 butterflies.
