The BWF announced today that it will take five months from August 2 to restore the points ranking system that has been changed due to the impact of the epidemic to its normal state. From January next year, the BWF ranking system will fully return to normal, that is, rankings will be determined based on each player’s 10 highest points in the past 52 weeks.
Affected by the epidemic, the BWF rankings have been frozen since March 17, 2020. The ranking will be restarted after the 2020 BWF World Finals. Although the highest points of the 10 stations will be used to determine the ranking, the point statistics period will be changed from the previous 52 weeks to the 12th week of 2019. This change has expanded the point-counting period from one year to more than two years, which is beneficial to players with fewer entries during the epidemic. Now, most of the BWF events have resumed, and there are conditions to restore the points system to normal.
The transition plan announced by the BWF is: starting from August 2, the world ranking will be announced once a week, and the period for calculating points each time is 4 weeks shorter than before, so that by March next year, the period for calculating points will be restored to the original one. 52 weeks.
This transition plan has the greatest impact on Chinese players. Since Guoyu rarely participated in the competition during the epidemic, the main points of the team members were obtained from 2019 to the beginning of 2020, and many players will continue to decline in the rankings for a period of time after that, unless they can achieve better results in this year’s competition.
