The Mazzarri treatment for now does not help to raise the team that has fallen to the penultimate place
CAGLIARI. Many illusions after the good performance at Lazio immediately wrecked at the first opportunity. Empoli wins 2-0 at Unipol Domus. Success with full merit in front of a practically non-existent Cagliari, with few and confused ideas. Andreazzoli’s team, filled with young novices in Serie A, gave a lesson to the rossoblù, who continue to show an embarrassing defense (13 goals conceded in 5 games) and a very evanescent game.
Mazzarri restarted from 4-4-2 in Rome with Walukiewicz taking the place of Caceres on the right out and Dalbert low on the defense line on the left with Lykogiannis operating in front of him in the midfield quartet. But perhaps it would have been better to opt for a 3-5-2 with a more robust midfield to counteract the opponents’ dribble.
The first chance at 4 ‘is already from Empoli with a shot from Pinamonti who is blocked to the ground by Cragno.
Cagliari replies looking for the insertions of the external players and the depth, but first Dalbert sparacchia from a good position then Keita arrives a breath late on the nice suggestion in the area of Joâo Pedro. At 22 ‘Lyko arrives on the launching pad, but his bomb is defused by the former Vicar diving.
But Empoli has continuous ball possession and is always dangerous, so much so that in the 29th minute they take the lead with Di Francesco at the end of a scrum: his conclusion is deflected by Ceppitelli who puts Cragno out of action. Cagliari tries to shake itself up even if the supremacy of the guests’ midfield is felt. However, at 34 ‘Marin kicks from a good position but only shakes the external part of the Empoli network.
It begins with some news in Cagliari at the start of the second half: the 4-4-2 remains but Strootman and Godin enter for Deiola and Carboni while Lykogiannis retires on the left wing in defense with Dalbert advancing in midfield. Cagliari presses and at 14 ‘Keita is served in the area by the arrembante Nandez but his right ends on the post.
A flash in the pan because at 24 ‘Empoli passes again with a great shot by Stulac who slips into the intersection of the goalposts.
It’s the tombstone to the game. Gaston Pereiro enters first, then Pavoletti too, but the evening is not appropriate for miracles and not even Mazzarri’s determination can do anything. The fate of the match is sealed. And now we go to Naples, but this Cagliari must completely change the register, otherwise there will be big trouble.
