Calcio Catania on the edge of the abyss, Sigi tries to play the last cards with Tacopina

Catania increasingly on the brink of the abyss. After seven months of complex negotiations between Sigi, current owner of the Rossazzurro club, and the American group led by the lawyer. Joe Tacopina, the two sides have now definitively separated and the future of Etna society is now hanging by a thread.

At this point I asked Joe to join Calcio Catania immediately, not Sigi. 3 million is enough to take 51% and the presidency, saving the club. You don’t need the 40 million he referred to. You can’t say “solve the problem, do everything yourself and then I’ll go in”. We do not close the door to anyone. If Tacopina, as he said, has the firepower to inject liquidity, so be it. It would mean saving Calcio Catania. Sigi is willing to continue. We have various external interlocutions, but it is clear that we have to start over almost from scratch and time is very short. Seven months of stalemate and work together weighs heavily on Joe Tacopina. He cannot submit an impossible proposal to us, a proposal that was not sent even in Italian but in English. It’s a question of respect ».

In the afternoon, however, the reply of Tacopina that when asked if he was still willing to negotiate or immediately pay the 4 million requested by Sigi ready to step aside, he replied with the following message: “We made our offer by loading on our shoulders the burden of a debt of over 45 million euros. This is a huge financial commitment. If Sigi has better offers, they should accept it or they can finance the team themselves ».

In the evening also the intervention of the mayor Salvo Pogliese that “in spite of everything – are the words of the mayor of Catania – I still believe that there are opportunities to save Catania and also to resume negotiations with Tacopina”.

Maybe, but time is running out and Catania risks failing.
