“The teacher” Angelo, as his students call him (who regularly looks down on the rankings at the end of the race because he punctually leaves them all behind) became the regional downhill champion, becoming the symbol of this adrenaline-fueled sport in Piedmont and entering the history of the sports movement in Italy.
Angelo Fuccio, a 57-year-old worker, won an extraordinary race in Prali, tackling the steep path with the “gas” always open. Even in the most difficult points. Cross country racer since 1992, in 2005 he started downhill by transmitting his passion to Rosaria “Rosy FUz”, several times Italian champion, 26 years old and Andrea, 30 years old. At Casa Fuccio we don’t talk about sport, we live it. A great collaboration between father and children that can also be seen during the races: Angelo is the first fan of both Rosy and Andrea and they are the father’s. It also happened on Sunday at the test of the regional championships in Prali, in the province of Turin, when Angelo Fuccio finished first in the Master 5 category and third overall: “I always have a lot of fun in every race and this is one of my secrets – he says. Fuccio, who often travels around Italy with his car, transformed into a mobile workshop and in which he often sleeps before the races – This year in two other races I finished fifth at the Coppa Italia test in Sestola, in the province of Modena, Sunday 16 May, and then third, Sunday 27 June in Caldirola, a hamlet of Fabbrica Curone, in the province of Alessandria – says Fuccio. My daughter Rosaria belongs to the Elite category, while my son Andrea is a Master 1 and in both categories the technical level is very high. Downhill is often run on the paths and in the woods that line the ski slopes and, like a skier, you must always show courage and personality in every test, both from the moment you start from the gate and at the end of the descent. We have never been in competition and we never will be, also because we run in three different categories – says Angelo Fuccio – but we are all united by the great passion for this adrenaline-fueled sport ».
