The coach returns to Sassari after 13 years: “I have an exceptional group at my disposal”

SASSARI. Demis Cavina is officially the new coach of Dinamo Sassari from today 2 July, with a two-year contract. This morning the president Stefano Sardara presented him in the club house in Piazzale Segni, drawing the line for next season. Cavina, who has already led Dinamo before the arrival of Meo Sacchetti, returns to Sassari with enthusiasm after his experience in Turin in A2.

“There is emotion and pride in being here to coach a team as prestigious as Sassari, which I left 13 years ago and now find myself among the great teams of Italy, with a European project, important goals and a lot of ambition – confesses the coach. – I inherit a group of players that I know quite well, I have already trained many of them, and therefore I start with an advantage. Now it is important to concentrate on finding hungry players, who want to improve and play in a square like Sassari, I think it can be stimulating ».

Dinamo will have to build not only the rooster players, but also the technical staff around Cavina, after Edoardo Casalone’s farewell. “As far as the staff is concerned, Genny Gerosa will certainly remain and then we are defining the figure of the first assistant,” Sardara announces. On the players front, however, the Mekowulu center will have to make Bilan forget, and will have Diop as a natural change, who from Turin, where he won the A2 MVP title, also returns to Sassari.

With them there will be the group of confirmed players: captain De Vecchi, Gentile, Treier, Gandini, Chessa, to which Kruslin and Bendzius should be added. On the other hand, the stay in Sassari of the national player Marco Spissu, protagonist of last season and in the crosshairs of various high-ranking clubs in Italy and Europe, remains a question mark.
