Challenge Tour, great golf returns to Fubine

by admin

FUBINE. Great international golf is back in Monferrato. At the end of July the Margara Golf di Fubine will host the Italian stage of the Challenge Tour, the second most important continental circuit after the European Tour. It is inferior in blazon only to the Italian Open, which this year will be held in September on the Roman course of the Marco Simone Club in Guidonia Montecelio.

The Fubine club is not new to this type of demonstration: in the past it had already hosted the Challenge Tour on 21 occasions, the first in 1981 and the last in 2008. It takes the baton from another Piedmontese reality: the last edition was in fact held in Castelconturbia, in the Novara area. «We jumped at this opportunity – explains the director Gian Marco Griffi – to promote the territory abroad. It will also be a great advertisement for our club, as events of this caliber allow golf tourism to move ”.

A great satisfaction therefore for Maria Amelia Lolli Ghetti, president of the Margara, daughter of Glauco (the founder of the club) and confirmed in recent months in the federation for the four-year period 2021-2024 with the role of vice president.

The race is scheduled from 22 to 25 July (prize money 300,000 euros), but it could be anticipated by another level competition. There is in fact the concrete hope of hosting the women’s Italian Open as early as the end of May. In the latter case, the details are missing, but the dates have already been confirmed on the Ladies European Tour website: from 28 to 30 May for a prize pool of 200,000 euros. If this were the case, the Margara would become the Italian epicenter of great golf in one fell swoop: it is since 2014 that Italy no longer hosts prestigious competitions of the top female continental circuit. The only drawback is the public: it is impossible to open the gates at the end of May for the women’s Open, while the club has some hope for the men’s event in July.

If the eve is also confirmednto in pink, both races will be played on the Lolli Ghetti course which in the past hosted champions of the caliber of the Spanish Miguel Angel Jimenez and the Swede Henrik Stenson. They are 18 holes for a total length of 6349 meters with the par set at 72 shots. There The setting is suggestive, but there are difficulties: there are slopes and bunkers (sand obstacles) placed in strategic points.
