Original title: Dialogue | Ruolin Chen: I don’t often turn the gold medals out to watch, because there are too many
In the diving arena of the Tokyo Olympics, in addition to the Chinese diving dream team winning gold and silver attracting attention, the two “heavyweights” sitting on the sidelines have also become the focus of many people’s attention.
The Olympic “Hardware King” Chen Ruolin and the Olympic “Four Gold Kings” Guo Jingjing are a unique landscape of the Tokyo Olympics. They were once invincible in the competition venues, and now they have become the “referees of referees.”
In this regard, the younger Chen Ruolin has more experience than Guo Jingjing. After retiring from the Rio Olympics, she chose to become a referee and successfully entered the FINA Diving Technical Committee.
For the Tokyo Olympics, the “three little ones” Quan Hongchan, Chen Yuxi and Zhang Jiaqi in the Chinese women’s 10-meter platform have won the love of countless netizens, and many people’s memories of Chen Ruolin’s reversal in the women’s 10-meter platform final in the Beijing Olympics are also Evoke.
As a diver, Chen Ruolin broke through the physical development barrier in the extremely fast renewal of the women’s 10-meter platform, and finally won 5 gold medals in the Beijing, London and Rio Olympic Games, becoming a role model for the flowers.
Recently, she chatted with Sino-Singapore Sports about her former career and her current retirement life.
Referee work
Sino-Singapore Sports: You and Guo Jingjing appeared on the sidelines at the Tokyo Olympics. Many people understand that your job is to score referees. Can you tell me what your job does?
Chen Ruolin: (Athlete) Jumping down, there will be different scores, some are high, some are low. It should be 8 points for jumping off with this action. The referee has his own understanding, or they will give 6 points or 9 points, the difference will be relatively large.
Then we will record it, and we will have a meeting after the game to discuss the score. In fact, the main thing is to manage the referees, and then they have to score the referees. Including all aspects, there will be a different division of labor every day in the competition, such as checking in, playing, and receiving the prize.
Sino-Singapore Sports: Some scoring items will be controversial and questioned for fairness. As a referee, how can you avoid interference from human factors?
Chen Ruolin: A scoring project like ours is still strong. Even if you jump down, there is no splash, including your take-off and the air into the water, which are very perfect. The referee is not easy to crush your points, and everyone is not blind.
Sino-Singapore Sports: You and Guo Jingjing are referees together this time. Do you have any special exchanges between the two?
Chen Ruolin: She showed me her son diving, and then her daughter played the violin, which was very cute.
Zhongxin Sports: Is the first cup of milk tea in autumn delicious?
Chen Ruolin: (laughs) On the day of Li Qiu, I said, “Oh, today Li Qiu is going to drink milk tea, but I can’t drink milk tea.” What did Guo mean by that? I said it was just a stalk, so I wanted to drink a cup of milk tea on the day of Liqiu. She said that I would make a cup for you, and I said yes.
But there is no milk and no tea in our rest room. We just use the kind of creamer balls poured in coffee, make one with the kind of tea made, and add a little sugar.
Return to the Olympics
Sino-Singapore Sports: This time as a referee at the Tokyo Olympics, did you have a deep impression of which matches?
Chen Ruolin: Actually, I think every game is quite impressive, because our team has several big sisters, like Shi Tingmao, this is the second time. I have known Shi Tingmao for a long time, and this journey is particularly difficult. She is very proud of her when she wins the championship.
A few children also participated in the first Olympic Games this year. I feel that our Chinese diving team is still full of talents, and there are still many people who can always be on the field, and then I will show you a very perfect performance.
China-Singapore Sports: During the Olympics, the “three little ones” who jumped on the 10-meter platform, especially Quan Hongchan, received a lot of attention. She got a perfect score for three jumps in the final. How did you feel after watching this game?
Chen Ruolin: I think it’s quite exciting, because she has a very high level of training, and we often see actions like those in competitions in training.
Our project is to compare ourselves with ourselves. In big competitions, especially like her first participation in the Olympics, she can jump out of her usual training level. Her psychological quality is still very good.
On the day of the competition, I was still thinking, don’t be nervous, just jump out of the usual training level, she participated in the (Olympics) for the first time, maybe the psychological pressure is not that great.
China-Singapore Sports: Platform jumping athletes must have a developmental barrier. The most rare thing for you is that the Olympic 5 gold king has always been a platform jumping event. There is no springboard due to development. Do you have any suggestions for the developmental barriers that the three little sisters may face immediately? ?
Chen Ruolin: It is still necessary to control the weight, especially for our project. Weight is very important. When it starts to develop, various functions of the body will decline. At this time, if you gain weight, you will be easily injured.
Then we will soon have new people in this project, one year or two, so I hope they can maintain a good weight and maintain their competitive level, and I hope to see them again next time.
Sino-Singapore Sports: In this Olympics, there will also be some netizens who call “fried fish” in the diving arena, and there are also some ridicules. But when you sit on the sidelines and see such a scene, do you think of your own experience?
Chen Ruolin: The laymen don’t know much. They think it’s funny to fall, but we actually know that falling is very painful and feels more distressed (athletes), there will be resonance, and the feeling of falling down.
I don’t think everyone should joke (athletes) because it is not easy for every athlete. His heart will be very upset and very painful, and at this time outsiders laugh at him, it will be sad.
Career
Sino-Singapore Sports: In fact, when the 2008 Beijing Olympics, you were very young. Can you recall that time?
Chen Ruolin: (laughs) Then I have to recall the memories, after all, it is 13 years ago. Because it was the first time I participated in the Olympics, and I didn’t know much about it. I thought it was a relatively large-scale competition, and I didn’t think it was the Olympics too much.
After the competition, I felt that-it turned out that this was the Olympics. Because I am too young to understand the meaning of the Olympics, I don’t have that much psychological pressure. I won’t say there are so many psychological burdens before the game or before the final jump. In fact, it is to make the training level.
Sino-Singapore Sports: Watching the Tokyo Olympics now, do you think there is any difference from that time?
Chen Ruolin: Suddenly now I am also an idol. I used to like a lot of people, like Guo Jingjing (Guo Jingjing) and Fu Mingxia. Now suddenly everyone says to learn from Chen Ruolin, and I feel that I am also an idol.
Sino-Singapore Sports: Shi Tingmao cried by the pool after the last jump in the Tokyo Olympics. Can you particularly understand her feelings at that time?
Chen Ruolin: Yes, because her pre-match state is very similar to when I was in 16 years, just a little bit of “not feeling”. We practice too much, it has become muscle memory, but our own movements just can’t jump anymore.
I couldn’t jump off all the movements, and because of my age, it was very difficult to overcome, and it was not easy. I felt that (Shi Tingmao) was especially worthy of learning for all of us.
Sino-Singapore Sports: Shi Tingmao once said that she had a situation similar to depression. Have you encountered a similar situation?
Chen Ruolin: I was also very difficult in 16 years, because at that time, my cervical spine was injured. It was very serious and I might retire. If I say no to dance, then it will definitely not work, including the age problem, and then can not jump off the action, coupled with injuries, I was very depressed during that time.
It’s also very painful every day. The thought of doing something that I can’t do today makes me uncomfortable. Even I don’t know how to overcome it.
Sino-Singapore Sports: At the moment when you really decide to retire, do you feel unwilling?
Chen Ruolin: Actually, I didn’t feel disappointed either. I just felt that I could finally stop doing morning exercises. Because we get up very early in the training every day, and we will get up at 6 o’clock in the morning. (After retiring), we finally don’t have to do morning exercises and can sleep in late. (Laughs)
Retired life
Sino-Singapore Sports: You have gold medals in the Beijing, London, and Rio Olympics. How do you collect gold medals in your daily life?
Chen Ruolin: Just put it at home.
Zhongxin Sports: Will you take it out occasionally?
Chen Ruolin: I don’t know how to do it, because there are too many. (Laughs)
China Singapore Sports: In addition to the work of FINA, what career plans do you have?
Chen Ruolin: I am now working as a coach, as a coach for the national team. I think being a coach is so hard! I didn’t understand the coach at the time, but after becoming a coach, I especially wanted to talk to my coach. It was hard work.
Sino-Singapore Sports: Do you have any other cross-industry ideas?
Chen Ruolin: No, I am quite happy in the diving industry of sports circles. Because our athletes are still relatively simple, and their personalities are quite straightforward. They don’t hide themselves and can make a lot of sincere friends.
And I know more friends in this circle, so it’s pretty good in the sports circle.
