How did you meet?

“By chance. A year earlier I had asked for information on how entrustment works to Emilia Russo, the president of Mammematte.com, managed by “M’aMa – On the children’s side”, a group of professionals who act as a link between the courts and social services at search for families who want to take care of children. Then I let it go ”.

What happened then?

“Emilia got the wrong number: she was looking for a foster family for this child who needed affection. She wanted to contact another Chiara; she called me by mistake, finding my number in the phone book ”.

A mistake that then turned into a great love story.

“I had recently confided to my spiritual father my desire, for years now, to become a mother. He had suggested that I wait and have faith. Then came this call ”.

“When I met him, he was lying on a bed in the Meyer. He was about one and a half years old, the son of a Pakistani couple who learned of his pathology when he was born. At first they visited him once or twice a week. Then they stopped going. At the hospital they started the procedure to look for someone who could take care of him as a parent. And I arrived ”.

How was your meeting?

“We met in March 2020. I immediately fell in love with him. He was lying on a bed looking up at the ceiling. He had never left the hospital, he had never even eaten or drank a sip of water, fed by a tube. He looked at me, I placed him on me and he pressed against my breasts. From that moment I understood that I had become his mother ”.

What disease did Kaif have?

“A very rare syndrome, there are only 170 cases in the world, but his is the most severe form because it is increased by a combined immunodeficiency. At birth the doctors had given no hope of life. They told me right away. Yet my son has reached the age of 4: he would have turned it on June 7th “.

How was your life together?

“Beautiful, full of emotions. She filled me with love, smiles, satisfactions. For two years she was unable to leave the hospital. Then I managed to take him to the Meyer garden, to make him touch the grass with his feet and to make him enjoy the rays of the sun. How happy he was! In all, he was out of the hospital for a total of six months: during these short periods, I tried to make him have all the experiences that he had not been able to live. We have been in the mountains, by the sea, in the countryside. At home he met my dog: they adored each other “.

“I work for Toscana Aeroporti and I have used all the holidays, leaves, permits possible. They supported me. It was definitely worth it ”.

What happened in the last few days?

“There have been problems several times in recent years. In the last few weeks he has undergone an operation that had gone well, then there were complications, he went to intensive care and at midnight and a half on May 1st he left. I know that they did everything for him, from the head physician, Dr. Massimo Resti, to all the staff. We couldn’t do more ”.

His is a pain that cannot be understood. But she manages to tell it with a smile.

“Kaif is a miracle. The doctors also wrote it on the reports: his survival all this time, the steps he began to take, the exits were miracles. He gave me everything and I gave him everything I could. I’m his mom and always will be. I am serene, because he is my little angel and no one will separate us, not even death of which, thanks to him, I am no longer afraid ”.
