Since he arrived in Bolzano, he immediately felt at home. The 52-year-old coach from Pavia Roberto “Cico” Sacchi led the Alperia, one of the two teams of the South Tyrolean capital of the women’s A2 series, for the fourth consecutive season. His girls snatched salvation in the first play-out round against Treviso. And the technician is already certain of confirmation in Bolzano also for 2022-23. «At the beginning of the season we expected something more, but Covid blocked us for two months. – explains Sacchi – Then when we resumed we had to play every three days. We played the last match on 18 December in Villafranca di Verona, then after Christmas there were seven cases of positivity. So we only resumed on February 20, effectively starting another championship. Besides then, shortly after, we recorded four more cases and we played with seven girls counted for another month. This did not allow us to do certain things and enter the top eight, a goal that, in my opinion, was within our reach. At the play out we saved ourselves immediately by beating Treviso, which came from 7 successes in the last 9 seasonal releases. We have achieved the goal of keeping the A2. The tournament is raising a lot of level ».

It is something that makes me proud ». South Tyrol is very close to women’s basketball: «We have two teams in A2 and one in B, all with the nursery. Although it is not a South Tyrolean sport par excellence, such as football, hockey or handball, the institutions lend a hand both economically and in terms of structures. We hope to bring the name of South Tyrol to all of Italy ». Recently two girls from the Alperia were given on loan to the under 17 of Pf Broni 93: «Broni has my heart left – says the coach from Pavia – thanks to coach Simone Righi, I had the opportunity to bring Rosa Kob to Oltrepo and Emma Fracaro, to help out. It started as a game. Until a few days ago, since they were still going to school, I would take them to Broni on Friday and we would go home on Sunday afternoon. I didn’t expect them to do so well on the pitch, I was pleasantly surprised. Now let’s think about next season ». –
