The Belluno captain focuses on Sunday’s match against Cartigliano. “In this championship we have had great satisfactions”
Past, present and future. But above all a season lived so far in a splendid way, among perhaps unexpected results, a salvation never questioned and the possibility of playing for the playoff qualification. On the other hand, the fifth place occupied by Mestre is only three points away, even if the competition is certainly not lacking. Simone Corbanese talks about everything, in the week leading up to Sunday afternoon’s match at the Polisportivo against Cartigliano (4 pm).
Few would have bet on such a good season on your part. And instead…
«And instead there has always been an awareness of our values and above all a great unity of purpose. I think both aspects have made a difference. Together with the enthusiasm, of course, and the desire to demonstrate the union that exists between us, staff and society ».
You came from some difficult seasons and perhaps you answered those who thought you were sentenced to leave.
“I don’t know if it was a further stimulus. But in my opinion it is not even correct to speak of a good year after two or three negatives. The reverse: the results obtained in the last nine or ten seasons speak for themselves. Three playoff qualifiers, placements in the upper half of the standings… All while maintaining the same historical group base, which is also anomalous for the category. Yes, of course, two years ago we had to keep the D series through the playouts, but we came out with safety in hand, although we were aware of the difficulties. Now we are returning to take away some great satisfactions, also thanks to the balance achieved and the consistency of players who have a culture of work. And if there are problems during a season, they can be overcome with their heads held high ».
The coach Renato Lauria and the deputy Andrea Fregona were good at proposing new game ideas.
«The entire staff has great merits. We listened to them, learning and receiving interesting stimuli. Above all, we have fun on the pitch. I think we have seen it ».
Now there is a season finale that will have to bring what?
«We have always told ourselves the goals inside the locker room and we want them to remain there. I also think this has been our strength, because in fact we have already started with one foot in Excellence for someone and instead six days from the end we can still achieve something prestigious ».
In the summer to stay you have refused important proposals, including the superior category.
“I am not a person to regret, not even when I then lived through less beautiful and easy moments. So even more this year I’m happy to have stayed ».
Cobra, you are the symbol of Belluno. How do you approach the merger hypothesis?
«I prefer to keep my ideas inside, at least until those in charge have completed the necessary path. In general we are footballers and it is right to leave to the appropriate figures the task of doing the best, in this specific case thinking about the future of this company. The managers showed great sincerity with us, explaining that they have a series of evaluations underway but inviting us to end the season in the best possible way ».
