Rome, 29 September 2021 – A tough fist from the US airline United Airlines, which has initiated an action that will lead to the dismissal of 593 employees, out of the overall 67 thousand, who refused to be vaccinated against Covid-19. “A difficult decision, but keeping our team safe has always been our priority,” the airline said in a statement. Employees who risk being fired have until October 15 to get vaccinated.

United reported that 2,000 other employees have applied for a medical or religious exemption, amounting to about 3%. The company said it was satisfied with the results of its vaccination policy.

The company said employees who are granted the exemption will be put in temporary leave from 2 October, while those whose claims were denied would have had five weeks to get the vaccine or be fired. United Airlines will put people granted religious exemptions on unpaid leave, and those granted medical leave on medical leave with some form of compensation.

United is the only major US carrier to impose the vaccine. Delta Airlines plans to start charging unvaccinated employees on the company’s health plan an additional $ 200 each month, starting November 1. American Airlines e Southwest Airlines they both encouraged vaccines. The mandate directed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to develop a rule requiring companies with at least 100 employees to adopt vaccination or weekly testing programs, with penalties of up to $ 14,000 for the violation.
