Title: Freestyle Skiing Open Group Women’s Slopestyle Finals: Guangxi Athletes Show Promise

Today, the “14th Winter” freestyle skiing open group women’s slopestyle skills final was held at Zhalantun Jinlongshan Ski Resort in Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia. Jilin player Liu Mengting won the gold medal, marking her second gold medal at the Winter Games. This victory follows her championship win in the women’s big jump competition in the open group of freestyle skiing on the 17th.

Guangxi athlete Xiao Siyu, who finished fourth in the women’s slopestyle event at the Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games last month, also attracted considerable attention, despite finishing fifth due to an injury sustained during the big platform competition a few days ago. Notably, among the 15 players participating in the finals, three were from the Guangxi team, all of whom were independently trained in Guangxi.

Chen Yang, the head coach of the Guangxi Freestyle Skiing Team, highlighted the cross-disciplinary selection of talent, with many athletes in the team transitioning from trampoline, gymnastics, and other sports to freestyle skiing. This transition has presented challenges, particularly in understanding the projects and rules, as well as adapting to the different flip axes and techniques required in freestyle skiing.

Guangxi, known as the cradle of Chinese gymnastics and trampoline talents, has facilitated the selection and cultivation of freestyle skiing talents. However, the lack of adequate ski resorts in Guangxi and across the country has impacted training efficiency. Chen Yang expressed hope that relevant departments are working to address this issue, ensuring better development opportunities for Guangxi’s ski athletes in the future.
