We don’t find out now that there is a link between curling and Cortina. That it has strengthened thanks to the Olympics, past and future, is even more evident. But what happened in the very recent municipal elections is certainly news in the world of sport. Because such a high presence of people linked to a still niche discipline certainly belongs to a sort of unicum. And if the list is even the winner, this explains why this sport is experiencing the more than proverbial “golden year”.

In summary, the new mayor Gianluca Lorenzi is first and foremost the coach and current vice president of the Curling Club Dolomiti, as well as the son of the Italian curling pioneer Ivo Lorenzi. Looking instead to the new directors, Alessandro Zisa is the president of the same Dolomites and federal coach, while Monica Dalus is none other than the mother … of the Olympic champion Stefania Constantini. And Giacomo Colli, 20 years old with high hopes and one of the strengths of the national team of the future, has only touched on entering the council. Without forgetting Giorgio Da Rin, former player, now with no more active roles in this sport. An incredible drive towards Milan – Cortina 2026, where perhaps it is not even necessary to remember that curling will find a home at the Olimpico.

Alessandro Zisa is the first to joke about it, among other things a technical commentator of Eurosport. «We won because a skip of absolute value was driving us» ”, he comments referring to Lorenzi. «I don’t know if the recent results obtained by Stefania have affected the final verdict of the polls. Of one thing, however, I am certain: we are going through a long wave of what has happened in recent months ». Zisa recognizes the merits of the Ghedina administration for having carried out the process for the construction of the new curling stadium. Because in Cortina we still play on a provisional structure on one side of the Olimpico, but in reality much more is needed if we want to increase future promises in view of the home games. “Now the design process must be closed in order to go to the tender in a very short time”, recalls Zisa. «We will be very careful on this issue: there is an absolute need for the structure. In the meantime, we will have to fix the current track so that it meets the needs of the athletes who aspire to enter the national team ».

THE MOTHER AND THE PROMISE

Monica Dalus also entered the city council. She, mother of Stefania Constantini, was actively supported by the champion. She “she carried out my voting cards and was delighted when the data were published.” We still remember Monica’s tears of joy when she, in the days of the semifinal and final of the Olympic mixed doubles in Beijing, she had opened the doors of her house at Corriere delle Alpi to closely document the emotions of the family. Many things have changed since then. “As a list we shared many values ​​in curling: I mean the strength of the team, respect for the opponent and so on”. At twenty he showed no fear of the chance to take the field and bring that touch of youth that is always needed in administrative life. «I was involved by Gianluca through a common contact who was aware of my desire to try this adventure.
