He fled communist Czechoslovakia in the early 1980s. He played seven seasons in the NHL, worked as a scout in it for over thirty years. In his native Liberec, Jan Ludvig also helped the White Tigers in development, but now he is overseas again. The hockey emigrant leads the Kamloops Storm junior team as head coach in the Canadian province of British Columbia. And he observes how the skills of his compatriots in the NHL thinned out again at the start of the season.
