The Cortina goes on vacation. The Ampezzo Alps season ends in the quarter-finals. In the Venetian derby, Asiago had the better of winning the series with a 3-0, thus eliminating the celestial whites from the playoff run.

To draw a first balance of the season is the goalkeeper of Hafro, Marco De Filippo, who has repeatedly kept his team afloat with great interventions.

“This year has been all in all positive”, De Filippo underlines, “we have achieved the minimum objectives we had set for ourselves with the club, namely access to the playoffs and arrival in the final four of the Italian championship”.

In both cases it was the yellow and reds led by coach Mattila who eliminated Cortina. Asiago is therefore precisely the black beast of squirrels. However, a good fifth place remains at the end of the regular season in the transalpine league.

«We have constantly improved since the beginning of the championship», De Filippo analyzes, «fifth place is certainly a good result. We had a slow start, also due to Covid which kept us away from the ice for several days. Then we gradually recovered in a crescendo until the end ».

In a difficult year due to the pandemic, the team made good improvements, especially with regard to young people. In fact, many with coach Machacka have had the opportunity to play constantly and to increase their level and experience. So next year many of the young people from Ampezzo can be ready to face a championship as protagonists. Returning to the lost series with Asiago, the white and blue number 1 thinks so.

«I think that, despite the final result, they were three very balanced and tightrope challenges. We certainly did better than the matches valid for the Scudetto semifinal. One more rebound or one lucky play might have changed the course of the match. Surely the people from Vicenza were more used to playing these challenges than us, they were more consistent and held the field better. Unfortunately we ”, concludes Marco De Filippo,“ have blackouts during the matches that we must eliminate. We still make too many mistakes and unfortunately with teams of this caliber they pay off ».

Olimpia Lubiana and Jesenice also won their series after three races, eliminating Vipiteno and Gherdeina respectively. After the postponement due to Covid, the challenge between Val Pusteria and Lustenau also began, the best of three races. The Austrians won in Brunico with a clear 6-0, taking advantage of the many absences in the Wolves halved by the virus. The fourth semifinalist will therefore also be known on Thursday. The semifinals, best of 5 races, will start next Saturday. –
