Dinamo forced to stop in the hottest phase of the season

The positivity found in the biancoblù group forces the whole team to quarantine. The 10 days of isolation prescribed by the ATS suggest that it is the English variant

SASSARI. The specter of Covid-19 in one of the most challenging moments of the season, the unknown of not knowing how long the emergency will last. A double burden, for Dinamo Banco di Sardegna, which effectively puts the season on standby and stands at the window waiting to understand when it will be possible to return to normal.

All in quarantine. The umpteenth “bomb” exploded on Saturday, when the biancoblù company announced that “following the positive feedback in the team group, the Ats has prescribed a 10-day quarantine period”. Short-term consequence: the postponement of the match against Dolomiti Energia Trento, valid for the seventh second leg of Serie A, which should have been played yesterday at 6 pm. Consequence – obvious – in the medium term: the postponement of the Champions League match scheduled for Wednesday in Bamberg, Germany, and also for the trip to the parquet of the Happy Casa Brindisi next Sunday.

Doubts and uncertainties. In the note released on Saturday, the company led by Stefano Sardara did not specify the number of team members who tested positive. The novelty, compared to the protocol followed in recent months by both Dinamo itself and by the other teams, concerns the fact that the Ats, therefore the health authority, prescribed quarantine for the whole group. An aspect that suggests that it is the so-called “English variant” of the Coronavirus, already present in Sardinia. If in the past the procedure was “positive swab, second swab and quarantine only for positive second swabs”, in this case players, staff and managers who are part of the team group ended up in quarantine. The only information leaked from the environments near the locker room concerns the fact that one of the positives (but, as mentioned, it is not known if there are others) would have had symptoms related to the infection.

The scenarios. In these days the biancoblù will be subjected to new swabs, from which the contagion situation will be better able. The certainty is that throughout this week the activity of the players will be completely eliminated, a fact that could strongly influence this phase of the season, which for Gianmarco Pozzecco’s team is full of commitments. The only consolation concerns the margin of time “gained” for the recovery of the injured: Eimantas Bendzius stopped after the match against Venice on February 27 with a knee problem, while Kaspar Treier was forced to stop by the medical staff to fix a messy ankle.

Bursting commitments. For Miro Bilan and his teammates, the stop comes in the middle of a tour de force, with commitments every three days between Serie A and Champions League. As for the championship, Banco di Sardegna is currently in the middle of the playoff area, all alone in fourth place with 13 wins and 6 defeats, the rest period already observed the home game against Trento to be recovered. The advantage on the ninth place is wide but with 8 days still to be played and several very difficult challenges to face, we will have to get back in step quickly: from now to the end of the regular season, Dinamo will have to face the vice captain Brindisi, two outsiders in the playoff area. such as Treviso and Brescia, and Cantù. In addition to Trento, Cremona, Virtus Bologna, Milan (April 14) and Reggio Emilia have yet to arrive at PalaSerradimigni. As for the Champions League, the calendar includes another 4 playoff days between now and April 7. Then, before the Final Eight (5-9 May in a venue to be defined), Fiba wisely thought of leaving a gap of almost a month that could be used to recover the postponed races. For the problem to arise, of course, the Sassari will have to win at least three (but perhaps four will be needed) of the remaining matches to play.
