In view of the championship match against Brescia, scheduled for tomorrow at 20.45, and the Champions League match against Prometey (Wednesday), Demis Cavina takes stock of the condition of his Dinamo, who was able to spend the whole week in gym.
«They are very important matches – says the Bolognese coach -. Brescia is one of the teams that openly wants to aspire to the “first after the big ones” and has all the qualities to do so. They have a new project that clearly needs to grow but eleven players can rotate, they are an athletic team that already has precise points of reference in attack. It will be a tough match, we will have to be as good as in Treviso to have the right approach in defense ».
From a defensive point of view, the biancoblù seem to have made interesting progress, while the attack still has some problems. Cavina only partially agrees. «I’m not worried about the offensive side, I wouldn’t want to focus on this as much as on the defensive continuity that allows us to have a solid base. The defense also helps you in situations in which you find it more difficult to make a basket: I give the example of a player like Bendzius, who in a moment of offensive tarnish is giving everything he can in defense ».
Could the high number of turnovers in recent matches also depend on the greater predisposition to make the ball travel? “I’m not happy with the turnovers – says the coach -, even if they are synonymous with counterattack and the desire to accelerate to transform a good defense into points, but I don’t accept balls lost for distraction or lack of attention compared to what is the offensive plan . As for the game in general, the bottlenecks came in difficult games, and perhaps at that moment we were not ready for a certain type of impact: I am thinking of the challenges with Ludwigsburg and Tenerife, which then won respectively against Baskonia and Alba, teams of Euroleague. We are far from that level at the moment, but we can still have more defensive consistency and improve the numbers that can help us reach the final result. Today I’m happy with this week of work – concludes Cavina -, we needed it, we needed it. Then it is clear that the final goal remains the game ».
