Europeans: controls at the Olimpico started for Ukraine-England, check points activated

by admin

ROME. Controls have started at the Olympic stadium in Rome where the European Championship match between Ukraine and England will be played tonight. Maximum attention is paid to compliance with anti-Covid regulations, in particular the mandatory quarantine, in light of the Delta alarm that continues to raise infections in Great Britain.

Activated the 5 check points set up close to the stadium for a check before the arrival of the turnstiles. The gates will open at 6pm. Some English fans have already been spotted this morning in the center of the capital, some at Termini station, but they would be residents of Italy. There are 13 thousand tickets sold for the match for which about 1500 English are expected who are already in Italy or from other countries and therefore do not have to observe the quarantine.

The fear of experts is all linked to the spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19 which, in recent weeks, has caused infections in the United Kingdom to spike. For this reason the police, carabinieri and soldiers of the financial guard, usually engaged in public order and in the ‘clashes’ between fans, are grappling with different controls, but equally tightened both outside the stadium and in the nightlife areas and in the pubs, where the match will be broadcast. The eyes will also be on the ‘fan zone’ of Piazza del Popolo, where some of the fans are expected.

In the Olympic area – as provided by the Rome Police Headquarters – five checkpoints have also been organized: in viale Antonino da San Giuliano, at piazza Maresciallo Diaz; on Lungotevere Cadorna, at the Ponte della Musica; at Lungotevere Thaon Di Revel, at Ponte Duca D’Aosta; in piazza Gentile da Fabriano and in piazza Cardinal Consalvi. In these strategic areas, there will be a sort of pre-filtering with massive controls by law enforcement regarding compliance with anti-Covid legislation. For those who will be caught without a “title” special shuttles are provided. The ban – linked to the Covid emergency and the spread of infections fueled by the Delta variant – applies to all those who have been in Great Britain in the last 14 days, “regardless of their nationality or residence”. Inside the stadium, which will have a capacity reduced to 25%, there will be 16,000 spectators.
