F1 world sprint: Red Bull smiles for Newey’s return after crashing on his bike

A bad bicycle accident during the summer break caused Adrian Newey to be absent from the Red Bull garage, an absence that ended two Sundays ago during the Turkish GP. The Motorsport consultant of the Milton Keynes team, Helmut Marko, revealed to Sky Germany. Newey underwent hospital treatment and a rather long convalescence, confirming the severity of the injury.

It is certainly an important return for the team that with Max Verstappen is playing for the F1 drivers title with Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes. Marko said Newey is not back in full shape yet, but he was able to contribute at a delicate moment for the championship. “Obviously Adrian is a prominent figure – said Marko, when asked about the impact of the absence of the technical director – in the early stages we did not know how serious the injury was and he had to undergo several operations”.
