Big clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are gathered in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. However, a second division team is making headlines. Coventry City turned their away game around and sensationally moved into the semi-finals after two goals in stoppage time.

The first two quarter-finals of the FA Cup ended with a favorite victory and a big sensation. The reigning English champions Manchester City and second division club Coventry City reached the round of the last four teams. Pep Guardiola’s team easily won 2-0 (2-0) against Newcastle United in the world‘s oldest football competition on Saturday and will play on the 20th/21st. April at Wembley Stadium in London for a place in the final.

Even without playmaker Kevin De Bruyne in the stands, the Cityzens dominated the match from the start. However, the guests helped with the goals. City professional Bernardo Silva scored with a deflected shot to make it 1-0 (13th minute). After almost half an hour, another Newcastle professional directed the attacking midfielder’s attempt into his own net.

Superstar Erling Haaland remained unlucky after the break despite good opportunities. After City keeper Ederson was injured in the Liverpool game (1-1), former Bielefeld goalkeeper Stefan Ortega was in goal and remained error-free for over 90 minutes. Newcastle will most likely not be represented internationally next season due to the cup exit.

Coventry nun in Wembley

In a furious game, second division team Coventry City reached the semi-finals with a 3-2 (0-0) win at Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers. Ellis Simms gave the visitors a 1-0 lead after 53 minutes. Within three minutes, however, Wolverhampton turned the game around. Rayan Ait Nouri equalized (83′) and set up Hugo Bueno three minutes later.

But the second division team, which won the cup in 1987, actually struck back again. Again Simms (90th + 7) and the American Haji Wright (90th + 10), who played for FC Schalke in the 2018/2019 season, ensured Coventry’s surprising away win and semi-final participation with two late goals at Wembley Stadium.

In the other quarter-final matches, Chelsea FC and Leicester City will meet on Sunday (1:45 p.m./DAZN). Afterwards (4.30 p.m./DAZN) Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC will visit arch-rivals Manchester United.
