The Canavese spoils for the national para-cycling teams that took place on Sunday in Marina di Massa are more than good: the Eporediese Alessia Refolo (who defends the colors of Anmil Sport Italia), engaged in the tandem paired with Giorgia Bonetti, won the title tricolor, while Livio Raggino (Tigullio Handbike Team) from Rivarolo in the tricycle category finished third, taking home a prestigious bronze.

To complete the picture of the results, the fifth place of Fabrizio Topatigh (Active Team La Leonessa) from Bollengo in the adapted bicycles category and the eleventh place of Michele Rosso from Chivasso (Francone As Velodrome) in the tandem, with Andrea Rastello in the role of guide.

For Alessia Refolo this is the umpteenth challenge won: after having dedicated herself to water skiing, sport climbing and athletics, collecting successes and prestigious results in each discipline, cycling is (for now) the last barrier broken down: «I decided to start pedaling in November 2020, accepting the invitation that Alex Zanardi had addressed to me several times in the last five years. A few months of preparation, therefore, to challenge athletes with much more experience; we did not expect to win the gold and the tricolor jersey: for us it was an immense joy to say the least ». Alessia’s high-level debut was possible thanks to the support of the Obiettivo 3 project, created by Zanardi: “It is a fantastic project – describes the new Italian champion – which over time has allowed me to hundreds of Paralympic athletes, to get closer to this sport: bikes, clothing and supplements are provided on loan for use, all essential tools to get off to a great start ». Then the meeting with Giorgia Bonetti was decisive: «With her I started pedaling in tandem in her areas in Veneto and, to train independently in the cold and lockdown period, she lent me her bike with the rollers that I placed on the terrace. Having started the new year, supported by three super cyclists who, led by my dad, define themselves as my squires, I started tandem road training in my area ». And in Marina di Massa, the umpteenth triumph of this girl who has never surrendered to the disease that deprived her of sight, strengthened by the motto “If you want you can” and who already throws her heart towards the next goals: ‘year I have important competitions scheduled in both para-cycling and Paralympic athletics ». –
