“It’s a very, very hard job for Tuchel now”

FC Bayern and coach Thomas Tuchel will go their separate ways at the end of the season. WELT TV football reporter Paul Klinzing is surprised by the timing of the announcement: “This is a very difficult situation for both sides.”

It is an open secret at FC Bayern that the relationship between coach Tuchel and national player Kimmich is tense. What has recently become more and more open apparently has its origins last summer.

Was that the beginning of the end? The disturbed relationship between Bayern Munich’s current coach Thomas Tuchel and Joshua Kimmich culminated in Kimmich’s substitution in the 2-3 defeat in Bochum last week.

With the score at 1:2, the midfielder had to go down after 63 minutes and then sat on the bench like a heap of misery, with tears of anger and disappointment in his eyes. Once again the Bayern coach had shown him that he wasn’t counting on him.

Already in the summer, Tuchel is said to have suggested to the record champions’ transfer committee around Uli Hoeneß, Herbert Hainer and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge that either Kimmich or Leon Goretzka should be sold. This is reported by “The Athletic”.

According to information from BILD, it was actually the case that the coach approved Goretzka for sale. Shortly afterwards, the national player publicly acknowledged the club and fought his way through without a regular place. Even now, Goretzka shouldn’t be thinking about leaving, even if he is under internal scrutiny from his bosses.

FC Bayern’s unsuccessful transfer poker

According to “The Athletic”, Tuchel wanted to create space in midfield by selling Kimmich and Goretzka in order to be able to sign a new defensive six. But the Bayern bosses resisted the departure of a leading player.

Tuchel’s wish to sign a “holding six” also did not come true. The transfer fee for Fulham star Joao Palhinha of 65 million euros was initially viewed as too high within the club. When Tuchel got his way, Fulham were unable to sign a replacement. So the deal falls through at the last second on deadline day.

“The team always pulled itself out of the affair nicely”

FC Bayern is parting ways with Thomas Tuchel. Jimmy Hartwig doesn’t get enough criticism of the team. “None of this is good for German football. “It gets worse and worse when the fans have a say,” said the ex-national player.

Instead, Tuchel had to start the season with the six-man combination Kimmich/Goretzka. In the summer he considered this constellation to be unusable and openly questioned its qualities. A source close to Tuchel told “The Athletic”: “He was like a doctor who sees that the patient urgently needs surgery, but can only prescribe a little therapy.”

Tuchel’s departure increases the chances of Kimmich remaining in the contract talks that are now underway. Previously considered the “captain of the future”, he will now take a close look at how the club is positioned and what his role should be. Otherwise, a move to a top club like Barcelona after nine years is still possible – perhaps even for a free transfer in 2025.
