lia./ (sda) FCZ coach Bo Henriksen is moving to the Bundesliga with immediate effect. The Dane will become coach of Mainz 05, as the FCZ announces. Henriksen asked the club to release him from the current contract and the FCZ complied with this request. According to 1. FSV Mainz 05, where Martin Schmidt from Valais works as sports director, Henriksen has signed until 2026. The FCZ and Henriksen had already announced that the contract, which expires in the summer, would not be extended.
Murat Ural and Umberto Romano will train the team as assistant coaches until the end of the season. Henriksen worked as head coach at FCZ for around one and a half years. After Lucien Favre, André Breitenreiter, Marinko Jurendic and Heinz Moser, he is already the fifth FCZ official to be headhunted directly by a Bundesliga club.
For Henriksen it is the first stop in Germany. He takes over from Jan Siewert, who was released after just three months in office on Rose Monday after eleven games without a win. Before his stint in Zurich, Henriksen coached the Danish clubs Brönshöj, Horsens and Midtjylland. In October 2022, he succeeded the dismissed Franco Foda at FCZ and led the then Swiss champions out of the relegation zone after a catastrophic start to the season.
More to come.
