Ferrari unveils the SF21, a single-seater of the rebirth. Elkann: “2020 has made us stronger”

by admin

Ferrari has unveiled the Sf21, the single-seater that will race the next Formula 1 world championship and that will have the difficult task of making people forget the disappointing performances of last season, conditioned by the lack of competitiveness of the Sf1000.

The car will be driven by Carlos Sainz, making his Ferrari debut, and Charles Leclerc, confirmed after the excellent performance of 2020, when he also managed to take the podium on several occasions despite a car clearly inferior to his competitors.

Binotto: completely new power unit

The Sf21 “was born from last year’s car, partly frozen for regulatory reasons as well”. This was explained by Ferrari’s sporting director Mattia Binotto, presenting the car for the new Formula 1 season. “A car that we have tried to improve in all its areas, wherever possible – said Binotto – revised aerodynamics, a completely new power unit ». This, he continues, “is the season of many challenges: we start visually from our history but we look to the future, always distinguished by our Ferrari red”.

Towards the new regulations

The Sf21 will be, by the same admission of the team managers, a transitional car. Engineers and frame builders are already working, in parallel, on the car for 2022 – the year in which important new regulations will be triggered, including the budget cut available to the teams – whose project will be the basis for the single-seaters for at least three years.

Elkann: “2020 has made us stronger”

«2020 is behind us but it will not be forgotten, indeed it will have made us stronger – said John Elkann, president of Ferrari, in a video message during the presentation. «Here we are in 2021 – continued Elkann – we can’t wait to get back on track. It was exciting to see how Charles and Carlos contributed, together with our technicians and mechanics, to preparing for the season ».
