Formula 1: Red Bull confirms talks with Carlos Sainz for 2025

Carlos Sainz in talks with Red Bull for possible 2025 F1 seat

With the early confirmation of Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari and the Rossa’s preference for Charles Leclerc, Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has emerged as a free gem in the Formula 1 market for 2025. Sainz, who has had a phenomenal start to the 2024 season with a victory in Australia and a podium in the other two races he competed in, finds himself without a confirmed seat for next year.

The name of the Madrid native has been linked to Audi, who will officially enter F1 in 2026, and Mercedes in a potential swap deal with Ferrari. However, the latest development sees Sainz in talks with Red Bull, as confirmed by the team’s advisor Helmut Marko. Although negotiations are underway, Marko admitted that Red Bull may not be able to match Audi’s lucrative offer for Sainz.

Marko also mentioned that Sainz’s history with Red Bull may be a factor in his decision-making process. The Spaniard previously raced for the Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso alongside Max Verstappen before feeling displaced when Verstappen was promoted to the main team ahead of him.

Despite the talks with Red Bull, Marko highlighted the strong performances of Sainz’s current teammate Checo Pérez and stated that if Sainz rejects the offer, Pérez’s chances for the 2025 seat will increase.

When asked about his situation, Sainz remained positive, stating that all his best options are still open. However, he emphasized the need for time to make decisions as he considers his next move in the competitive world of Formula 1.
