From wines to the fashion show, the rain does not stop the great Atp tennis festival

TURIN. Aside from yesterday, an anomalous day ruined by the incessant rain, the “collateral” events at the Nitto Atp Finals races, organized to involve tourists and Turin residents, are enjoying public success. Full and sold out for the next few days at the tastings of the Masters of Taste in Piazza San Carlo, within the space dedicated to the institutions of the Fan Village. The appointments are fixed: in the morning we start with chocolate, to introduce the Turin artisans, then at lunchtime there are wine tastings and at aperitif time we switch to vermouth. The tours are also full, especially those to discover the historic cafes and the Savoy family that have intrigued tourists.

Yesterday, however, the safety and cleaning staff of the stands fought relentlessly against the adverse weather. The blue carpet that covers the flooring of the structures has become soaked with water: the access steps are unusable, blocked with plastic sheets to avoid risks to people. To access the sponsor area and the space of the Turin Chamber of Commerce and Tourism it was only possible to use two central ramps and then walk the entire corridor between the puddles of water.

A desperate race between vacuum cleaners to try to remove the water, brushes and the good will of all those who were working in the area to empty the plastic sheets full of water. The risk of flooding was only averted in this way, at least until the evening. Then if the weather does not give respite the situation is destined to worsen.

Meanwhile, the planned activities were held, such as the presentation of the Turin Fashion Week with the models who showed the clothes by parading among the ATP settings. In this context, “The Struggle Series” was presented, the streetwear collection created by Maki Mandela, daughter of the former South African president Nelson Mandela and CEO of House of Mandela, the company he founded in memory of his father. The t-shirts and dresses reflect the original designs made by the Nobel Prize which depict different hands. “My father liked fashion and loved to dress well. His shirts, unwittingly, have become the symbol of his style and an exhibition was recently held at the New York Fashion Institute of Technology on Madiba’s shirts », underlines Maki Mandela, in connection with Turin. And he adds: «I am thrilled to participate in Turin Fashion Week and I thank Carmen Abdullh Muhammad, a friend and one of the most influential African American women in Los Angeles who founded the collective Al Nisa Designs, the highest expression of Modest Fashion. Thanks to her I met Claudio Azzolini who for six years has been bringing emerging international fashion to the Piedmontese capital ».

The event, which started yesterday, will last until 21 November.
