Gallium: “Tifo Belluno but at San Giorgio I have many friends. The prediction is difficult”

Giacomo Luchetta / Belluno

The past on the San Giorgio bench, the present as a manager at Belluno. For Livio Gallio Sunday will be a special derby, because there are excellent relations between the Gialloblù vice-president and the Sedicense management, born when Gallio coached the Lebanese spearmen for a season, in 1993-1994.

In that team there were Paolo De Cian, Claudio Fant, Mauro Cervo and Stefano Chiesa (father of Denis del Belluno), today all managers of today’s team, born from the merger in 2013 between San Giorgio and Sedico.

“It was a period that I had abandoned the world of football to devote myself to work, but when the San Giorgio offered me the bench, I gladly accepted the challenge”, says Gallio, “that season went well and in the following one I went to Feltrese, where we nearly won the Promotion championship, subsequently losing the play-off to climb to Excellence against Reschigliano on penalties. I have always been a friend of the De Cian brothers, of Mauro Cervo and of the whole environment. In the past I had also played with Manlio De Cian ».

You had played with the great Belluno, but when did you enter the management?

«In 2009, when Sergio Barzon was president. Subsequently, poor Sergio Carbonari did it for two years and then for two years it was my turn. I pushed to bring Augusto Fardin to the Polisportivo and he proposed Roberto Vecchiato as a coach. Those were wonderful years on various aspects, not only for the results obtained ».

“It’s hard to get out of balance. Clearly I support Belluno, even if on the other side I have many friends who, despite a difficult start, are doing an exceptional championship. The classification of the Belluno is excellent, but the goal remains that of salvation and therefore to reach 40 points or a little more to get it. I am always of the idea that, first of all, we have to watch our backs ».

Belluno is experiencing a season above expectations.

«The merit, first of all, goes to Renato Lauria and the group, the one considered to be“ old ”but who show every Sunday that they are not. Having players like that, who have shown great attachment to the yellow and blue jersey ».

Haven’t you thought of giving the bench to Lauria first? Maybe after the first “era Vecchiato”?

«We thought about it, but it was never proposed to him, because he was doing an exceptional job in the youth sector and we were afraid to penalize all the good things that had been done, since it was only half done. This year his work is showing its fruits, in the first team there are young people who he has followed and also who has coached as Chiesa, Band, Spencer and Fiabane ».

Bertagno recently said he is considering hanging up his boots. What do you recommend?

«I know he is thinking of starting a different role in society, but I have seen him in almost every match and I tell him that it is still early to stop, because it still makes a difference. He has personality and is an important player for the locker room, he acts as a glue with everyone and is a point of reference ».

Denis Chiesa is playing a season at the highest level, did he expect it?

«He is playing an exceptional championship and moreover in two different roles. Not only as a central defensive player but also as a midfield interdict. We have always had faith in him but honestly we didn’t think he was that strong ». –
