by admin

Among the more than 160 couples starting tomorrow morning at 7 from Ponte di Legno for the 2021 edition of the Adamello Ski Raid, a ski mountaineering race that develops over a distance of 34 km with a positive difference in height of 3,180 meters, there will also be three Biellese. Gabriele Gazzetto, who will compete with Marco Daniele from Abruzzo, and the Bufarola duo made up of Franco Chiesa and Riccardo Tonino.

«I try for the first time with such a long race: one of the classics par excellence – says the twenty-one year old“ Bubu ”Gazzetto -. It was a winter characterized by a pandemic: the Mezzalama was skipped, La Pierra Menta was reserved only for professional athletes and the Periplus of Monte Rosso was also canceled. In spite of this, I trained well on skis, even if we are now at the end of the season and in the last month I have concentrated more on running ».

The new race course will be different from the traditional one, which cannot be proposed due to the closure of the mountain huts. The athletes will start from the 1,270 meters of Ponte di Legno for a first stretch on foot and then get on their skis along the Pegrà slope. The highest passages are planned at 2,610 meters of Passo Paradiso, then to 2,860 of Seletta Sgualdrina, to 3,000 of Passo Presena, and again to 2,400 of Lake Mandrone, up to 2,990 of Passo Tre Denti. The descents will also be spectacular and technical, above all the Fossa del Diavolo and the descent towards the finish line. And then the suggestion of the passage in the military gallery. «A very beautiful technical race – Gazzetto concludes -. In the past I had participated in the Junior test, but on a different track. I am waiting for my first real test, as a “grown-up”: I’m curious to see what I can do ».

Chiesa and Tonino are back from the 53rd place obtained three weeks ago at the Transcavallo. «Among the classics of the“ Grande Course ”we still lacked the Adamello – says Tonino -. The season was complicated, but we trained. We have some experience and we hope to go well ».
